Student teacher relationships have long been frowned upon by society. But this kind of taboo relationship has been focused mainly on a teacher and a student below legal age. But, what if the setting is in a university. The student and teacher are in the same university. The student is of legal age and is not enrolled in any of the classes of the teacher. Is it still a sin if the two of them have an intimate relationship?

Student /teacher romances are usually more acceptable in adult education or continuing education university programs than undergraduate programs where the school functions "in loco parentis", so the school's policies trump anything the adults might want.

Otherwise, I see no problems with these relationships.

Depends on your use of the word sin; if it's in the biblical sense anything sexual outside of marriage is a commitment to eternal damnation, but if you mean is it wrong, then like many things it's a matter of morality. Some people will do questionable things for what they perceive to be love, only to find out later that it was just infatuation.
