Persistency must be teaming up with talent just like steam is to the engine. It is the power by which the machine accomplishes the work which it must do.

Have you wonder why some people with great potential at the start may lose steam as time goes on? It might be because they lack persistency and just rely so much on talent. The two has to go hand in hand.

A great deal of persistency, with a very little talent, can be enough for a person to go farther than a great deal of talent in the absence of persistency.

Never just be talented but also be persistent! :D :D

I couldn't agree more. People who are talented and lack persistence will not go as far as people who have less talent but are persistence and determined. Too become skilled at a task (sports, music, etc). it's important to practice. Even if you have a lot of talent, there are always new things to be learned. A lot of these things also require regular practice/training to keep your play on the same level. And then there's a third group that has talent and could be persistent, but they are talented at something they dislike.

Great advice that has relevancy in so many areas of life! I think the key to persistence is to start with right mental attitude, and back it up by how you talk about the goal. Saying "I'll give it a try" sets you up for failure, as it suggests you think you might fail. Instead, better to say "I'll do it", with the knowledge that if you keep working towards the goal regardless of setbacks, you will eventually succeed if you have enough commitment. Talent helps but it's overrated sometimes, as people can think you have to be born with a skill, when in fact so many skills can be learned.

Persistence will always be an attribute of the successful. To work at a goal for one minute per day, every day, is far better than working one hour once per month. You brain and body start to pick up on your earnest intent and work hard to help you achieve your goal. You have to show your sunconscience that you mean business and hap hazzard efforts do not do this.

Although no one is perfect, practice helps a person almost become perfect. :p
And to be consistent and persistent in reaching a goal makes a person reach it and become so much successful. It is true that those people who have those characteristic could go farther than those who are born with abilities without it.

Another great book: The Power of Thinking Big. It makes the point that intelligence is not the main factor. Rather, the ability to think big--and of course to act on that thought.
