How many of you have considered starting your own business? Did you start a business? Are you still considering starting a business of your own?

While I would love to work for myself and have all the perks that come with that, I really don't think I would want to start a full business up myself. If the opportunity ever comes up, I would probably take it in a heartbeat and run with it, but I'm not going to aim for that.

Starting one's business whether offline (or the traditional brick-and-mortar type) or joining the online business bandwagon can lead us to a greater height of financial freedom we are all dreaming of. Only a very few of people who are working for other people can claim financial independence.

In many cases, this is not just all about the money but also the freedom to enjoy those money. When you are just an average employee working under a company or business, generally speaking you may not just have the financial freedom and security but at the same time you are not also enjoying time freedom.

Once successful in your own business, you can have those two great privileges. And those are two great reasons why I am now building up my finances to a level that can catapult me to gain keys of having my own business. I am already involved with small ventures online and hopefully this year I can push them to a higher level. Let's make business now! Join me. :D

As a stay at home mom, I think it will be very nice to be financially independent and still be able to take care my children and starting a business at home is I think the best way to do it. I did have a small business once where I sold cosmetics. It was quite a thriving business but I put too much time and effort in the business that my family was neglected so I gave up the business and decided to just focus on making money online where I can do my work whenever I am free. This way my family will not get neglected ever again. The money is very small but at least I'm earning something instead of just sitting around the house doing nothing.

I actually had tried to have small business years ago and it was not that successful. But still would want to have my own business in the future. ;)
I am right now working at my own pace so I am just enjoying the moment. And besides I need to save for the right amount of capital before starting business again.

Having a balance between caring for your family and operating a sucessful business, is a challenge as a women. Finding that balance is well worth the effort.
Making sure one has enough operating capital and a reserve, is most important in order to keep the business afloat, as businesses take a good while to break even, then go on, hopefully to profitability. See if you can find a mentor, someone who has been in business before, or is in
business now, who will give you prudent pointers. Good luck to you.

I have never actually considered the other option which is to work for someone else.

It's funny when I hear these questions because I don't always realise that I'm actually in the minority as I spend most of my time with other entrepreneurs.

I would say that if you really want to live your passion then you are going to need to work for yourself or start a business. By chance someone else might give you "permission" to live on your own terms. But why wait?

The truth is you can have what ever you want in life today.

I used to own my own business, though it was a consultancy so it was just me and the other director (you know, one of those "limited company" setups for contract work). I had an accountant and everything. I have to say it was an amazing feeling: even though I was really still an employee for a big company, the ability to get the business debit card out and pay for dinner was totally cool.

I'm on the verge of doing it all again, too. I'm not sure whether I really want to, which is a problem, but I'm right on the edge of taking the leap and starting up another company. Research first, I guess. ;)

I will be starting my own business in about a year once I save enough money. I've thought about it a lot ever since I quite my job two years ago. I decided I don't want to go back to working in an office or with annoying co-workers. I also want to spend as much time with my kids as I can because I am thinking of home schooling them. Also I want to be able to raise my kids by myself financially. I don't want to rely on my family or my kids dad for anything, if they are not around some day I don't want to get caught off guard. With the plans I have I will only have to work on weekends and on holidays which works out good because we don't celebrate holidays anyways. When my kids get a little older I will be able to take them with me to work.

I would love to start a business, but I am nervous about a few things, especially how the manditory medical insurance or Obama Care will affect small businesses. It should be repealed and focus should be on making options available for small businesses to purchase into the government insurance plan. I would love to get the same plan Ted Kennedy had.

I have dreamed of starting a business for quite a while, but I admit that I am cowardly in this respect. I have several ideas but I am risk averse and I am still trying to wrap my head around the risks involved to take that leap. I wholly admire those who don't fear failure and wish there was something easy to give me the courage. However, I know I have to alter my mindset in order to have the courage and this is the biggest challenge.

It is certainly scary to start a venture that you don't know will succeed or not especially if you're used to having a regular salary every month. When you start your own business. you don't know if you'll earn anything from it. You may earn big but then again you may not. That is why some business consultants would suggest having enough money in the bank to last for at least six months to a year before starting your own business and I think if you can have a partner who will share the financial burden, that would assuage the fear too. You won't be doing it alone.

That is a good point and something that I have recognized as a personal weakness is that I tend to try to do everything myself. This is not a good way to tackle larger challenges and means that I can easily become overwhelmed. Now I am trying to find other people with whom to work in order to improve my odds for success in the future.

I really desire to put up a business but only one thing that hinders me. capital. I have a business in mind but my parents are not helping me to fund my proposal. so I need to work on it on myself alone. I cannot make it happen without money for it so I am struggling where to get the money I need. I don't want to make a loan because it is too risky for me.

Try to find someome who has been in the business that you want to start. To get as many tips as you can from them. Make them your go to person, for questions that you might have.
For capital. consider selling shares to investors for a percentage of the company profits. That was going to be my plan when I was younger. I found some interested people. It can be done. The mechanics would have to be done by an attorney. Prepare a business plan and a mission statement. You must believe in what you want to do, if you are going to sell the idea. Good luck.

you have a good idea and it seems you know what to do and where you go.

in my case, I think I am alone and I cannot make it into a reality without help.

i have a friend who wants to lend money to me but the amount i can borrow is not enough for the business i want to pursue.

Hi, Try to save as much money as you can. I'm not familiar with your country, but there may be government agencies, which could help you with finances for your business. Inquire at your bank about a loan. I would hold off borrowing money from your friend. Think about starting your business on the smallest scale, that you can and grow from there. I don't know how old you are, but if you have a house and a lot of old things, think about having a garage sale, obtaining funds from the sale. I lived in an apartment and I sold a lot of my things, carpeting, dining room set, to obtain funds to buy a condo. If you really want something, you do it takes legally to get it.

you have a good idea. getting a loan from a bank would not be my option because what will happen to me if my business venture would fail therefore zi cannot pay my loan and that would be a big problem.

it is good that you are doing good in doing a garage sale, in my case I can't because the things I have is what i am using and what i need. I don't have things that can be sold because they are important to me.

First of all I would like you to take this as construction advice. Do not go into this thinking you are going to fail. If you don't want to try to get a loan then don't, but not because you are thinking what if I fail. You must first of all be positive. Don't even have it in mind, as I read from someone, "failure is not an option". Believe in yourself, that you will succeed.

Well, your post reminded me of my failed efforts to start a business. I've tried to run a business so many times, but somehow one or the other obstacle has come up. Sometimes it was the shortage of funds, sometime something else. At other times probably it was my own incompetence. So after those failed attempts I've now left those dreams and desires to rest for a while, as I concentrate on other areas of work. But there is some unfinished business that I'd like to finish some day, hopefully with a bit of luck this time!
