A book review which was previously published in our newsletter: SPLASH: An Introvert's Guide to Being Seen, Heard and Remembered by Carole Cameron, Career/Lifeskills Resources, Inc., 2009. Do you prefer to get your energy from things internal to yourself and tend to focus your energy and attention inwardly? Do you like a lot of quiet time alone-to think and reflect? Then, you would be an introvert. Extraverts tend to focus their energy and attention outwardly. We all function on a continuum, but have a comfort zone in one direction more than another. Cameron, an introvert, wrote this book to share what she learned from swimming along life's stream and from brave introverts who chose to create lives they wanted. Sp!ash is about accepting ourselves, being ourselves and getting to where we want to go in our lives. In section one, the author discusses traits and needs of introverts (and extraverts). There are exercises to discover your core needs and talents. In section two, Carole offers five strategies and applications for making a splash so you can be seen, heard and remembered. For example, strategy one is to "Wear the Suit that shows your Best Stuff." You learn how to know your strengths, talents and abilities and clarify how you want others to experience and remember you-and commit to moving in directions of your choice. Other strategies focus on making connections with others, making good first impressions, using your energy and creating big changes. Throughout the book, there are tables for you to answer questions as you do the exercises and so have a record and guides to apply the strategies. This book is guaranteed to help you to know, accept and like yourself. Cameron offers information, exercises, practical tips and inspiration that would be helpful for both introverts and extraverts.
